Biography

When Bruce and Nancy Shea were married in 1981, they had no idea that the family disease of addiction would become part of their life story. But when two of their four sons began suffering from addiction in their teens, their family was thrown into chaos, crisis, despair, and dysfunction.

It wasn’t until the couple sought help for themselves, both individually and together, that they began the long and winding road to their recovery. They marvel at the many “silver linings of addiction” that they have received and witnessed in their own recovery as well as that of their sons, the many miracles that initially did not look like miracles. They are especially and enormously grateful for the miracle of long-term recovery for both of their sons, celebrated one day at a time.

Bruce and Nancy are passionate about supporting other families with loved ones suffering from addiction to find hope and healing. They have been grateful members of Nar Anon for 15 years and co-facilitators of a Six Steps to SANITY program since 2017.

The couple resides in the South Hills. In their retirement, they enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren. They focus on “paying it forward”, bringing the message of hope and recovery to those God has put in their paths seeking support.
