Biography
Bruce A Kraus is a well-respected leader who had the honor of serving on the Pittsburgh City Council from 2008 to 2023. He represented the city’s third district and was a vocal advocate for the welfare of his constituents throughout his 16-year tenure.
Among the many passions Bruce brought to local government, Brue advocated for LGBTQ rights. working to ensure that every resident is treated with dignity, fairness and respect.
With a deeply held dedication to animal rights, and a deep sense of empathy and compassion for all living beings, he believes that every creature deserves to live a life free from suffering and mistreatment. His advocacy work is fueled by a desire to create a more compassionate and just world for animals everywhere.
Bruce embarked on his personal path to sobriety 36 years ago. Challenging and arduous a journey but determined to chart a sober path in a life rooted in the spirituality of the 12 steps, Bruce has become a strong advocate for addiction recovery, carrying the message of hope and positivity to those still suffering.
Originally approached by IRETA with the idea of organizing a walk for recovery here in Pittsburgh, and with the tireless energy of so many local recovery agencies, Bruce gladly brought the resources available to him to assist in making the dream a reality.
Today the Pittsburgh Recovery Walk brings together individuals, families, and organizations to celebrate the wonders of recovery and to raise awareness about freedom from addiction and living a life happy, sober and free. Thanks to so many with heartfelt vision and deeply held dedication, the Pittsburgh Recovery Walk has become a cornerstone of the local recovery community.
