We are pleased to announce that Sally Wiggin will serve as the emcee of the 2019 Pittsburgh Recovery Walk.
WTAE Channel 4’s legendary broadcaster was inducted into the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame. She joined the 2015 class made up of an elite group of Commonwealth broadcasters and four former WTAE inductees whose distinguished service made a positive impact on audiences and the industry. She was the second female anchor to be inducted.
In 2016, Wiggin, as host of “Chronicle,” was part of a WTAE news team awarded a Peabody for a series on volunteer firefighting, “Burning Questions.”
Wiggin joined WTAE in 1980, and in January 1981 became co-anchor of the weekend news, a position she held until November 1986, when she was named anchor on the weeknight newscasts. She anchored the 11 p.m. news for 16 years and the 6 p.m. news for 22 years.
An active sportswoman, Wiggin is a horseback riding, cycling, skiing and golf enthusiast when time permits. She considers speaking to school children, serving the nonprofit community and working with the zoo and the region’s animal shelters the special rewards from her job.
